On Friday 2 August Knowsley will hold its first ever Pride celebration event at Court Hey Park and a group of school children from Malvern Primary School have created some special bunting to adorn the courtyard at the park for the celebrations.
Working with artist Nayna Lad, the group discussed some of the themes of the celebration, including love, courage, family and community before sketching out their designs in small format to later transfer onto large fabric flags that will form the decorative bunting.
They were joined by the Leader of Knowsley Council, Cllr Graham Morgan, who spent time with the children discussing their designs and what Pride in Knowsley meant to them.
Cllr Morgan said: “It was wonderful to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic about celebrating diversity in our borough. They showed great empathy and understanding about the significance of Pride events and are so happy to be part of this milestone moment, supporting Knowsley’s first Pride celebration.

Tony James, Headteacher of Malvern Primary School said: As a school it is deeply important to us that we celebrate diversity and inclusion in all its forms. We were delighted to be asked to play a part in Knowsley’s first Pride celebration and the children have poured their hearts into making some beautiful bunting so show our schools support for such an important event for the borough.
The theme of Knowsley Pride is ‘Rainbow in the Park’ and this has been reflected in the bright and colourful artwork produced by the pupils.

Knowsley Pride has been organised by charitable organisation, One Knowsley and the Knowsley Pride Steering Group with funding from the Michael Causer Foundation, and follows a series of Pride events for the city, including LCR Pride Foundation’s ‘Pride in Liverpool’ celebrations on Saturday 27 July
Knowsley Pride ‘Rainbow in the Park’ will take place in Court Hey Park, Huyton from 10am – 3pm on Friday 2 August 2024 and welcomes people of all ages to enjoy the festivities. Find out more at: https://oneknowsley.org/family-friendly-pride-event-announced-for-knowsleys-court-hey-park/
