A new creative writing competition invites Knowsley’s young writers to imagine the jobs of the future and bring them to life through stories.
Knowsley is a place with a proud history, strong communities, and an exciting future. Opportunities are continuing to grow across sectors such as advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, health innovation, creative industries, and green energy.
World of Work: Tomorrow’s Tales encourages young people to imagine the jobs of tomorrow and what Knowsley might be like in the year 2036. Whether they dream of designing robots, protecting the planet, exploring space, inventing new technology, or creating solutions to problems we have not yet encountered, this competition encourages children and young people to think boldly, and explore how their ideas could help shape the future.
The competition is open to children and young people aged 9-13 who attend school in Knowsley. They are encouraged to reflect on how their local area might develop and how work, technology, and communities could change over time. They should consider which jobs or industries might be thriving, what their future self could be doing, and how advances in technology might affect daily life and work.
Entrants are also encouraged to think about how Knowsley could become an even better place to live and work in the future, exploring how communities, innovation, and creativity could shape the borough.
What to Write
Entrants can submit one original piece of creative writing written in any style. This could take the form of a short story, a narrative diary entry written by their future self, a letter sent from the future, or a poem.
How to submit
Each submission must be between 400 and 600 words and include a clear title. Entries may be typed or handwritten, although handwritten work must be scanned or photographed before submission. The student’s name, school, and year group must be clearly included. The deadline for submissions is 5pm on Wednesday 3 June. Please email your submissions to educationawards@knowsley.gov.uk
