More than 15,000 people visited Court Hey Park last weekend to be part of the Knowsley Flower Show.
Despite poor weather conditions forcing the cancellation of the Feelgood Festival on Saturday, crowds were undeterred and turned out in force to celebrate the Flower Show’s 25th Year.
Thankfully, the sun put in an appearance and the show offered something for everyone from magnificent floral displays and live music performances to tempting food and drink, and countless fun activities for the kids, including bubble workshops, circus skills and fairground rides and attractions.
Visitors to the show were wowed by ‘Imagine Bamboo is Everywhere’a project delivered by Imagineer in partnership with Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to highlight the sustainable nature of bamboo and it’s potential for use in design, construction, green innovation, farming and carbon capture across the UK.
There were large-scale artworks made by local artists, with bamboo harvested locally from Ness Botanical Gardens and music from the Imagine Bamboo Orchestra, led by Pagoda Arts with young musicians from across the region. Audiences could also enjoy physical theatre performances, run away with the bamboo circus, then have a go at making their own creations in the bamboo crafting zone.
Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council said: “The Feelgood Festival and the Knowsley Flower Show have been hugely important events for Knowsley for many, many years and a lot of hard work goes on behind the scenes in the weeks and months before.
“Unfortunately, this year the weather wasn’t kind to us at all and we had to take the difficult decision on Saturday morning to cancel the Feelgood Festival.
“Despite the challenging circumstances our teams worked so hard to make sure that Sunday was a fantastic day that was enjoyed by everyone who attended.
“It was just wonderful to see so many Knowsley families enjoying the fantastic array of activities on offer across Court Hey Park.”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “We were thrilled that the Flower Show could go ahead as planned on Sunday. The sun shone brightly on Court Hey Park and the atmosphere was fantastic.
“People travelled from across the borough to be a part of this very special Flower Show and the park was a hive of activity from the moment the gates opened until they closed.
“It’s really important that we are able to keep events like this free, so that as many people as possible get to enjoy them so a special thanks to our sponsors for supporting us in doing just that.”
