The 2025 Knowsley Music Festival opened with a very special sold out event starring pop music icon Paul Young.
Songs and Stories, an Intimate Evening with Paul Young took place at Shakespeare North Playhouse on Wednesday 29 October showcasing a blend of music, memories and humour, giving fans an insight into Paul’s life in music.
Paul Young emerged on the music scene 40 years ago when his debut album ‘No Parlez’ went to number one on the UK music chard, spawning iconic hits like Wherever I Lay My Hat (That’s My Home).
More success followed with the number one album The Secret Of Association and the worldwide hit Every time You Go Away, and Paul even appeared on the legendary Live Aid stage.
Paul performed several of his classic hits, in a stripped-back acoustic set and then shared the stories behind them, and talked about his life and career as well as taking questions from the audience.
In a short video after the event, Paul said “It’s been great fun being a part of the Knowsley Music Festival. We’ve had a great time at this wonderful venue. Thank you so much for asking me to come along and do it. It’s been a blast.”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome Paul Young to Knowsley to kick off this year’s Knowsley Music Festival. Fans were treated to a really special evening in our stunning Shakespeare North Playhouse, and it was a night that I know many people won’t forget in a hurry!”
