Shakespeare North Playhouse is inviting local people to their FREE Open Day on Saturday 19 September.
Taking place as part of this year’s Heritage Open Days programme, the event celebrates the theme of Everyday Histories and explores the stories, skills and traditions that have helped make Prescot the town it is today.
Visitors will be able to discover more about Prescot’s rich heritage, from its watchmaking, cable manufacturing and farming industries to its long-standing connection with Shakespeare. The day will also shine a light on the many stories behind the theatre itself and the people who help bring it to life.
There will be a range of interactive activities throughout the day, giving families the chance to get creative, learn something new and explore the Playhouse in a fun and relaxed way.
The theatre’s Learning and Engagement team will be running hands-on workshops, while visitors can also find out more about the theatre’s work in the community, including artist development programmes, creative learning opportunities and fundraising initiatives that help make theatre accessible to everyone.
One of the highlights of the day will be the launch of the new ‘Find My Seat’ experience. Designed to support accessibility and inclusion, visitors will be encouraged to try different seating options and discover what works best for them, helping everyone feel confident and comfortable when attending live performances.
The Open Day is also the perfect opportunity to get a sneak peek at the Playhouse’s upcoming production of Macbeth, directed by Ben Crystal. The production will be performed by candlelight using original Shakespearean staging techniques, offering audiences a unique insight into how the play may have been experienced centuries ago.
