Nearly 500 music fans showed up to enjoy the Knowsley Music Festival Extra at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park on Friday 19 May.
The festival, a celebration of artists and music from the Liverpool City Region, was headlined by iconic Liverpool band, The Christians with a roster of talented emerging local artists performing alongside them.
The gig was brought to Knowsley by BBC Music Introducing presenter, Dave Monks. Dave has his finger on the pulse of the local music scene and brought together Daisy Gill, Paul Crowe, and Casino to perform at the event, all of whom have featured on Dave’s BBC Radio Merseyside show.
Audience members took to social media to express their delight at the event. Here’s what some of them had to say:
“It was a brilliant night of music, and everyone loved it.”
“Great night of music last night. Well done everyone and let’s do it again!”
“It was a fantastic night hopefully we will get to see more great artists here soon xxx”.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “Hot off the heels of our fabulous Borough of Culture year we have once again proven that there is an enormous appetite for culture and events like this in Knowsley. The atmosphere on the night was electric and I am so proud to see Knowsley shine bright on nights like these.”
The gig follows the hugely successful Knowsley Music Festival in November 2022. The festival was a highlight of Knowsley’s year as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture that featured some of Knowsley’s (and Liverpool’s) most famous musical exports including China Crisis, Craig Charles, Space, John Power, Ian Prowse, and The Real Thing.
This one-off gig isn’t the end either, Knowsley Council’s Culture Team are working behind the scenes to bring Knowsley Music Festival 2023 back this autumn, for a second year.
