More children and young people across Knowsley and the Liverpool City Region will have the chance to develop their creativity, confidence and skills thanks to an exciting new partnership between Shakespeare North Playhouse and the Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC).
The Prescot theatre has joined the RSC’s national Associate Schools Programme, becoming part of a network that connects schools and theatres across England to bring creative learning into the classroom through the power of Shakespeare and performance.
The programme supports teachers and schools to use creative approaches to learning, helping young people build confidence, strengthen communication skills and engage with education in new and inspiring ways. Research from the RSC shows that arts-rich learning can improve wellbeing, critical thinking and educational outcomes for pupils.
Through the partnership, Shakespeare North Playhouse will work closely with local schools to ensure more children, regardless of their background, can access high-quality arts and cultural experiences.
Lisa Allen, CEO and Creative Director of Shakespeare North Playhouse, said:
“We are absolutely delighted to be joining the RSC’s Associate Schools Programme and to be bringing this nationally recognised model of creative learning to Knowsley. Regardless of their background, every child deserves access to high-quality arts and cultural experiences. This partnership allows us to work closely with schools, teachers and young people to unlock creativity, build confidence and create meaningful opportunities that will have a lasting impact on learning and life outcomes. The programme aligns perfectly with our mission to place our community at the heart of everything we do, while connecting Knowsley and Merseyside to a national network of innovation, excellence and opportunity.”
Cllr Graham Morgan Leader of Knowsley Council said:
“Providing opportunities for children and young people to learn new skills, explore their creativity and broaden their horizons is a key priority for Knowsley. We’re delighted to see Shakespeare North Playhouse bringing this nationally recognised programme to the borough and the wider Liverpool City Region, helping more young people access high-quality arts and cultural experiences.”
The new partnership builds on Shakespeare North Playhouse’s commitment to making arts and culture accessible to everyone and will help create even more opportunities for local young people to learn, explore and thrive through creativity.
