Almost 100 residents took part in a recent community consultation event, marking an important milestone in Prescot’s bid to become UK Town of Culture 2028.
The drop‑in session invited local people to share their memories, comments and ideas to help shape the town’s cultural vision for the future.
Alongside the strong turnout, the consultation team also collected postcards filled with feedback, including personal stories of Prescot’s heritage as well as creative suggestions for how culture could continue to grow in the town.
The volume and quality of contributions signal a high level of community pride and engagement and highlights the community’s enthusiasm and the strength of local support behind the bid.
Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council commented:
“We are delighted by the fantastic turnout. Many residents took the time to share their stories, ideas and hopes for Prescot, and that level of engagement shows just how much pride people have in our town. The feedback we’ve received will play a crucial role in shaping our bid for UK Town of Culture, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who took part.”
Some of the comments shared:
“Prescot has an abundance of creative, cultural and commercial talent. Being older than Liverpool itself and having an important industrial heritage it is lovely to see even more diversity with local shops and boutiques.”
“Home is when I see the steeple of St Mary’s Church all lit up!”
“Prescot has an old fashioned high street with lots of small independent businesses, it still feels like an old town. It feels quirky!”
“Prescot has always been about community, now more than ever. About Prescotians helping each other and standing together.”
The insights gathered will directly inform Prescot’s Expression of Interest for the UK Town of Culture competition, which must be submitted by 31 March 2026.
Shortlisted towns will be announced in spring, with the final winner revealed in early 2027.
If successful, Prescot would receive £3 million to deliver a major cultural programme in summer 2028 — an opportunity to showcase the town’s heritage, creativity and growing cultural confidence on a national stage.
