This October, everyone is invited to step back in time to celebrate Prescot’s rich heritage and enjoy an array of Elizabethan activities and attractions.
The Elizabethan Fayre is a long-running event in the town and a favourite in the Prescot calendar.
This year’s event will be smaller than usual, but it will still offer a selection of traditional activities for families to take part in including children’s Shakespearean face painting, clay ‘blobster’ making, candle making and mask making. There will also be the popular Circus Skills workshops and show and the Birds of Prey stand.
New for this year is a ‘Storytelling’ event where local people are invited to share their stories and memories of growing up or living in Prescot, or stories of the town’s rich past in a friendly and intimate space.
This is all part of the preparations to celebrate Knowsley’s year as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture in 2022 and follows story catching events held across the borough during the summer.
Councillor Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “We are delighted that we can host the Elizabethan Fayre this year and invite people along to come and celebrate Prescot’s Elizabethan past. It may be smaller in scale but there will still be plenty of great activities for everyone to join in and enjoy. I’m really looking forward to the return of the Fayre and seeing the town come alive with some of the more traditional activities that would have been very familiar to the town all of those years ago.”
Prescot’s historic Church will also be open on the day and visitors can enjoy the heritage tours and learn more about the history to this Jacobean building.
The Elizabethan Fayre will take place around Prescot Parish Church, Church Street, and Marketplace on Saturday 23 October from 11am to 4pm.
Storytelling in the Round
The storytelling event will take place in the Imaginarium Roundhouse between 12-1pm and 2-3pm.
