Support for Prescot’s bid to become UK Town of Culture 2028 continues to grow, as local businesses and organisations across the town come together to champion its cultural future.
From independent shops and cafés to community organisations and creative groups, voices from across Prescot are backing the bid, highlighting the pride, collaboration and energy that make the town unique.
Their testimonials reflect a shared belief that culture in Prescot is not just something to visit, but something that is lived and experienced every day.
Hospitality venues, retailers and creative organisations have all played a key role in shaping the town’s identity, contributing to a vibrant high street and a welcoming atmosphere for both residents and visitors.
Many have spoken about the strong sense of community, the growing buzz around the town centre and the way local businesses actively support one another.
Sarah MacLeod, Headteacher, Evelyn Community Primary School:
“Prescot’s transformation has been inspiring for our pupils and provides regular opportunities to visit the theatre, participate in workshops, music and cultural festivals which have enriched their education in ways that extend far beyond the classroom.”
Fatih Gumusgoz, Owner Maturo Meathouse:
“There’s a genuine spirit where people support each other, local businesses thrive and culture is part of everyday life.”
Cathryn O’Grady, Principal at Jan Williams Dance School:
“It’s such a lively place with loads going on and it inspires our dancers every day. We get to perform locally, work with the community and be part of something creative and fun.”
Ste Daly, Manager, Prescot Cables FC:
“I’m proud to see how Prescot brings people together through its rich history, strong community spirit and growing arts scene. It’s a place where tradition and ambition go hand in hand.”
For many, the bid represents an opportunity to build on the progress already made in recent years, particularly following the opening of Shakespeare North Playhouse and the resurgence of the town centre as a cultural destination.
The strength of partnership working has been a key theme throughout the campaign, with businesses, schools, cultural institutions and community groups all contributing to a shared vision for the future. This collaborative approach reflects the town’s wider ambition to ensure that culture continues to drive opportunity, wellbeing and pride for local people.
Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council, said:
“It’s fantastic to see the level of support from Prescot’s businesses and organisations. They are at the heart of the town’s success, and their voices play a vital role in telling Prescot’s story. This bid is a collective effort, and the strength of these partnerships shows why Prescot is such a strong contender for UK Town of Culture 2028.”
