Get ready for a day of fun and fantastical frolics as the Serious Nonsense Festival returns to Prescot this Saturday, 23 August.
From 11 am to 6 pm, the town centre will be transformed into a vibrant hub of music, mayhem, and marvellous capers, with a spectacular line-up of FREE family entertainment and performances.
The festival, which celebrates Knowsley’s fascinating connection to literary nonsense writer Edward Lear, promises a full day of entertainment that will delight all ages.
Don’t miss the packed musical program with something for every taste. The “super charged 11-headed ska monster” Baked A La Ska will be rampaging through the town with their energetic sound, while Silk Street Jazz brings toe-tapping Dixieland classics and New Orleans rhythms.
Visitors can also enjoy the unexpected from Splintered Ukes, the crowd-pleasing hits of the Pop Vox Choir, and the vibrant Bhangra performances of Nachda Sansaar, complete with live dhol drums and a chance to learn some new moves.
Beyond the music, the streets will come alive with a range of jaw-dropping acts. Don’t miss the high-flying action of Futureshock Wrestling, the explosive performance of “twisted fire starter” Danielle De La Wonk, or the gravity-defying dance-circus production of WILD from internationally renowned Motion House.
At Shakespeare North Playhouse, there’s a series of ticketed events throughout the day. Families can join the interactive “Storyplay with Lucy” for a hilarious storytelling adventure or witness the magical journey of “Up & Away” by Tmesis Theatre, a show filled with puppetry and physical theatre. The day culminates with an evening of laughter as stand-up powerhouse Dan Nightingale headlines “Serious Nonsense with Dan Nightingale & Friends” in the Cockpit Theatre.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “The Serious Nonsense Festival is a fantastic opportunity for our community and visitors alike to come together, have fun, and experience something truly unique. We are incredibly proud to bring such a vibrant and diverse line-up to Prescot, and we can’t wait to see the joy and laughter these incredible acts will bring to our streets.”
