The streets of Prescot were filled with laughter, music, and amazement last weekend, as the Serious Nonsense Festival once again welcomed thousands of visitors for a day of spectacular entertainment.
The festival, which celebrated Edward Lear and the unique spirit of literary nonsense, was hailed as a triumphant success, bringing together communities and captivating audiences of all ages with a diverse programme of free and ticketed events.
From morning until evening, the town centre was transformed into a playground of imagination. Crowds were wowed by the hard-hitting action of Futureshock Wrestling and mesmerised by the gravity-defying performance of WILD by renowned dance company Motionhouse. The explosive spectacle from “twisted fire starter” Danielle De La Wonk drew gasps, while the high-energy breakdance battles from Powered by Hip Hop had everyone cheering.
Music resonated throughout the town as the “ska monster” Baked A La Ska delivered a high-octane set that filled the dance floor. The vintage flair of Silk Street Jazz and the energetic covers from Splintered Ukes kept feet tapping, while the vibrant Bhangra routines from Nachda Sansaar proved to be a crowd favourite, encouraging visitors to join in and learn a new move or two.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Communities & Neighbourhoods, commented: “Seeing so many families and friends come together to experience such a wide range of performances was a truly special sight. The atmosphere was incredible, and it’s a testament to the power of culture and community. The festival has cemented its place as a cornerstone event in our calendar, and we are already looking forward to next year.”
The festival’s magic continued at Shakespeare North Playhouse, where special ticketed events were met with full houses. Family shows like Up & Away by Tmesis Theatre delighted audiences, while the evening concluded with a packed crowd for a night of stand-up comedy headlined by Dan Nightingale.
