Knowsley’s iconic Owl and Pussy-cat sculptures have begun the second leg of their summer tour, this time taking up residence across Halewood.
After spending just over seven weeks brightening up Huyton Village, the colourful sculptures, which are inspired by the famous Edward Lear poem, have relocated to 14 sites across Halewood.
There are 29 sculptures in the trail all with unique designs that reflect a part of Knowsley’s history and culture.
One of the owls, ‘Blackie’, which is located at Halewood Leisure Centre, depicts the life of the famous WWI warhorse who despite suffering shrapnel wounds continued to serve and was buried with his master’s medals at his final resting place in Halewood.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “It’s so wonderful to see these brilliant sculptures take up residence across Halewood following such a fantastic reception in Huyton.
“Public art trails like this are fun for all ages and are such a great way to explore the local area. It’s the perfect summer holidays activity for families and I know it will also attract people to Halewood who maybe haven’t visited before.”
“The Owl and Pussy-cat sculptures were created for Knowsley’s year as the Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture in 2022 and a new owl was created especially to commemorate Liverpool hosting the Eurovision song contest earlier this year.”
