Kirkby Gallery is getting ready to launch ECHO, a brand-new exhibition by environmental artist Julie Dodd, which opens on Monday 13 April.
Visitors to ECHO will experience a thoughtful and visually powerful body of work that encourages audiences to consider their relationship with the environment.
Working primarily with recycled and reclaimed materials, Julie transforms discarded books, papers and everyday objects into intricate sculptural forms. Her practice is rooted in repetition, natural patterns and environmental responsibility, using art to spark reflection on waste, consumption and the fragile ecosystems we risk losing.
This will be Julie’s first solo exhibition in a decade and brings together some of her most recognisable sculptural works alongside brand-new pieces inspired by ecological themes and the changing climate.
A programme of creative workshops led by Julie will accompany the exhibition, inviting participants to explore hands-on responses to ecological issues. These include an adult workshop on Thursday 23 July, where participants can explore watercolour techniques to create organic, cell-inspired imagery.
There will also be two family‑friendly creative days on Monday 3 August and Thursday 6 August, offering activities such as crafting paper coral reefs and sculpting butterflies. For more information about any of the creative workshops please email galleries@knowsley.gov.uk.
Alongside ECHO, the Entrance Gallery will host Supporting Households in Crisis, a compelling exhibition by local artist Patricia McDonald-Holmes. Developed as part of a wider research project led by the University of Liverpool, the work reflects lived experiences of food insecurity, welfare support and community resilience in Knowsley.
Drawing on photographs, artefacts and digital collage, Patricia’s work explores the realities behind the cost-of-living crisis and the support networks emerging within the community.
ECHO and Supporting Households in Crisis are on from Monday 13 April – Friday 14 August 2026 Both exhibitions are free to attend.
Kirkby Gallery is located on the first floor of The Kirkby Centre, Norwich Way, Kirkby, Knowsley, L32 8XY and the gallery is open Monday – Friday: 10am–5pm (last entry 4.30pm) and Saturday: 10am–1pm (last entry 12.30pm)
