Huyton and Kirkby Libraries are hosting two special meet the author events in October and November.
Join author JP Maxwell at Kirkby Library on Tuesday 31 October where the author will read from his most recent novel ‘Water Street’ which is based on based upon Liverpool’s clandestine involvement in the American Civil War.
JP Maxwell’s background ranges from studying Russian at University College London to working for a Californian software company and running a newspaper kiosk. He returned to Liverpool in 2001 and now teaches Screenwriting and Digital Writing at Liverpool John Moores University.
On Thursday 9 November Huyton Library hosts an author double feature, with JP Maxwell and Ashley Nugent.
Ashleigh Nugent was Liverpool City Region’s Artist of the Year in 2022. He has been published in academic journals, poetry anthologies and magazines. His debut novel, LOCKS, is based on the time he spent his seventeenth birthday in a Jamaican detention centre.
LOCKS won the 2013 Commonword Memoir Competition for its early extracts and is now receiving rave reviews in magazines and blogs. It is now being reviewed by major publishers , which would make Ashleigh the first black male writer from Liverpool to have a traditional book deal in his genre.
Nugent has written for the Everyman Theatre, Liverpool and Live Theatre, Newcastle. He is also now a special advisor at the Shakespeare North Playhouse. He is also a director at RiseUp CiC, where he uses his own life experience to support prisoners and inspire change.
