As we come to the end of 2024 we look back at a year filled with celebrations marking 50 years since the borough of Knowsley came into being.
The year began with Moments of Light, a series of sparkling performances that lit up Knowsley’s town centres.
Through the spring, the Prescot Elizabethan Fayre and Prescot Festival of the Arts returned bringing music and merriment to the town.
During the summer Knowsley marked its first ever Pride event and Court Hey Park once again hosted the vibrant Feelgood Festival and Knowsley Flower Show.
The Serious Nonsense Festival took over Prescot Town Centre bringing record audiences for a day of theatre, workshops, street performances and music.
The Knowsley Music Festival and Fringe Music Festival returned in November featuring Pete Wylie and the Mighty Wah!, Deaf School and a very special homecoming performance by China Crisis at St Chad’s Church in Kirkby. The Knowsley Business awards marked its 20th anniversary and celebrated the best and brightest of the business community in the borough.
And of course we welcomed in the festive season with the Knowsley pantomime, Cinderella at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park.
As well as these headline events, across the borough, schools, businesses and community groups held their own celebrations and contributed to dozens of projects including new public art trails for Halewood and Huyton.
To mark the end of Knowsley’s 50th year, Culture Knowsley have commissioned a special film celebrating the borough’s many important people, places and moments over the last half century.

Cllr Graham Morgan, Leader of Knowsley Council said:
“It’s been amazing to celebrate this golden anniversary of the borough throughout the year. There has been so much joy in our towns and villages and pride in where we are all from.
“It’s been wonderful to see so many people come together and participate in our biggest cultural programme since 2022 and while the year may be coming to a close, there’s lots more to look forward to in 2025, so watch this space.”
