The Knowsley Open Art Exhibition has returned to Kirkby Gallery, featuring 364 works of art created by people who live, work or study in Knowsley, the largest number of submissions the gallery has ever received.
The exhibition is open to artists of all ages and this year, the borough’s young artists have made a substantial contribution to the show, with almost half of the work created by under 18’s, including pupils from 14 Knowsley schools.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: The Open Art Exhibitions is a highlight of Kirkby Gallery’s programme. When it is staged every 2-3 years, we are taken aback with the volume and quality of submissions we receive.
“It’s so wonderful to see so many young people take part once again and they should take enormous pride in themselves to have created such wonderful works of art for this exhibition.”
“As always, we are asking our visitors to participate in judging the exhibition and submitting their favourite entries for a Visitor Choice prize.”
There are 21 Visitor Choice prizes up for grabs, voted for by visitors to the gallery. This includes 10 prizes of £50 for artworks produced by artists over the age 18 years, and 11 prizes of £25 for the most popular artworks in the exhibition. The prizes have been generously donated by Edge Hill University and Friends of Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum community group, and will be awarded at the end of the exhibition.
With over half of the artworks available to purchase, art lovers will be able to get their hands on original works made with a local connection.
The exhibition runs until 12 April, and you’ll find Kirkby Gallery on the first floor of The Kirkby Centre, Norwich Way, Kirkby, Knowsley, L32 8XY.
