The 20th Knowsley Open Art Exhibition opened its doors to visitors on Monday 24 April with the biggest display of artworks in the show’s history.
The bi-annual exhibition at Kirkby Gallery showcases work by artists who live, work, volunteer or study in Knowsley. There are nearly 350 individual works of art in this year’s show, smashing all records for previous exhibitions.
The exhibition is open to artists of all ages and this year, the borough’s young artists have made a substantial contribution to the show, with more than half of the work created by under 18’s, including a huge number of Knowsley’s school children.

To mark the show’s 20th anniversary there are 20 visitor choice prizes up for grabs, voted for by visitors to the gallery. This includes 10 prizes of £50 for artworks produced by artists over the age 18 years and 10 prizes of £20 for young artists under 18. The Young Artist prizes have been generously donated by Edge Hill University and the prizes for over 18’s being provided by Friends of Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum community group.

Art lovers will be able to get their hands on a selection of the works at a special auction at the end of the exhibition. Twenty-two artworks have been donated to the gallery by artists for sale at the auction the proceeds of which will go to the Friends of Kirkby Gallery & Prescot Museum to fund a variety of their community and educational projects, including running the ‘Summer Art Sessions’, providing all art materials for the ‘Little BIG Art Club’, a Saturday morning art club for young artists and improving the art loan scheme available to schools through the ‘Love Art Loan Art’ scheme.
The exhibition runs until 22 July and you’ll find Kirkby Gallery on the first floor of The Kirkby Centre, Norwich Way, Kirkby, Knowsley, L32 8XY.
