Cultivating Creativity: The 27th Knowsley Flower Show
On Sunday 3 August, the much-loved Knowsley Flower Show opens its gates for its 27th year. This community event is a highlight for growers, bakers, and crafters from across the borough and beyond.
“We are excited to welcome visitors back to Court Hey Park again this year for the 27th Knowsley Flower Show,” said Christine Yates, Knowsley Flower Show Secretary. “The theme of this year’s show is Sculpture, with all its many features to enhance our gardens and provide focus points to draw the eye and highlight the beauty of the flowers in the garden.”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “The Knowsley Feelgood Festival and Flower Show are truly cornerstones of our community calendar and are so well attended year in, year out.
“These events bring people together, not just to celebrate the incredible talent of our local growers and crafters, but also to promote health, wellbeing, and a sense of shared enjoyment. We encourage everyone to come along, get involved, and experience the wonderful atmosphere that makes this weekend so special for Knowsley.”
Get Involved:
The Flower Show committee is on the lookout for new participants to showcase their talents. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or a green-fingered novice, there are over 100 categories open for entry. These classes welcome a wide range of exhibits, including herbs, vegetables, floral art, and pot plants, along with, of course, a diverse array of flowers. So, whether you grow roses or beetroot, fuchsias or potatoes, there’s a class for you!
But it’s not just about plants; you can also enter craft categories, baking, and jam-making. There’s even a series of children’s classes covering photography, art, and more, encouraging young talent to bloom.
“Last year we re-introduced a Floral Art class, which lends itself perfectly to our theme, so I for one can’t wait to see the creative entries we get this year,” Christine added. “The Flower Show is open to all ages and abilities, including those who are new to gardening ”
Growing for the show doesn’t have to be difficult; if you’re completely new to gardening, you can simply pick up a packet of seeds or bulbs, plant them in some soil, and see what appears!
