Free creative workshops for children and young people this half-term.
This half term, local illustrator Cath Garvey will be hosting two free, family‑friendly creative workshops in Halewood and Huyton to help shape the logo and branding for This Place This Stage – a new three‑year creative programme that puts young people at the heart of cultural life in Knowsley.
At ‘What is art?’ Exploring Knowsley Through Making, young people are invited to playfully experiment with a variety of materials and mark making techniques exploring themes of home and what art means to them. They can try out collage, bold black‑tape drawing, pattern making and mixed‑media perfect for children, young people and their grown‑ups to explore together.
At ‘EDIT, EDIT, EDIT!’ Editing & Collaborative Design, young people will work with Cath to edit and shape the branding for This Place, This Stage, working with a series of images to help creatively shape the final designs.
The free drop-in sessions are:

Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said:
“This Place This Stage is built on the belief that young people shouldn’t just be audiences for culture—they should be the ones creating it. By inviting them to design the logo and branding from the very start, we are making a clear statement that this programme belongs to them.
“Thanks to the Arts Council England Place Partnership funding, this is just the beginning of a massive three-year investment in Knowsley’s next generation. Over the coming years, we will be opening doors across the creative sectors—from technical production and digital arts to performance and design—providing young people with the tools, mentors, and platforms to launch their own creative futures.
Whether you’re a natural doodler or just want to try something new over half-term, your voice matters here. We aren’t just making art; we’re building a new creative legacy for the borough.”
This Place, This Stage is an Arts Council England supported Place Partnership with Knowsley Council, Heart of Glass, Adlib, Kirkby Gallery, Make CIC, and Shakespeare North Playhouse.
