Art lovers are making the trip to Knowsley this summer to enjoy the timeless craft of wood engraving and printing at Kirkby gallery.
For the first time in over 25 years The Society of Wood Engravers 87th Annual Exhibition is being held in the northwest of England, and this has resulted in fans from across the UK descending on Knowsley to view the incredible artworks on display.
Founded in 1920, the Society of Wood Engravers continues to champion the skill and creativity of wood engraving. This year’s exhibition features over 120 skilfully crafted prints, selected via an open submission process.
The diverse collection showcases a wide range of styled and subjects from contemporary engravers across the UK and overseas.
As part of this exciting exhibition, schools from across Knowsley have been taking part in a series of engaging workshops. This includes working with volunteers to learn more about the society and undertake their own nonprinting – a unique printmaking process where an image is created on a smooth surface and then transferred to paper, resulting in a single, unique print. Art supplies are also provided to pupils to help inspire them to create artwork of their own.
The Society of Wood Engravers 87th Annual Exhibition runs until 15 August:

Opening times are Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm (Last entry 4.30pm) and Saturday 10am – 1pm (last entry 12.30pm)
