Knowsley Council has announced that it will host a two-day festival of fun in Prescot this summer.
The event, which will take place on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 August will bring together the popular Elizabethan Fayre and Serious Nonsense festival into one big event that will animate the streets of the town over two days.
The event is set to be a celebration of all that is special and unique about Prescot. From recognising the town’s prominent role during Elizabethan times to celebrating all that is wonderful and wacky about Edward Lear who spent time living at Knowsley Hall.
There will be a wide range of free and ticketed events, attractions and performances across the town centre and in the Shakespeare North Playhouse – a diverse and surprising programme with something for people of all ages to enjoy.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council Cabinet Member for Communities & Neighbourhoods commented:
“We know how much our residents love local events and we are always looking at ways to make them bigger and better – attracting more people and bringing culture and fun to our communities.
Prescot currently hosts two separate family events across the year – one in May and one in August – and so we have decided to combine the two to create something really special this year. An event that celebrates everything that is so fascinating about the town and incorporates, history, heritage, our links to Shakespeare and Lear and of course all of this with a large helping of fun and frivolity too. I can’t wait!”
Full programme details will be shared nearer the time.
