During Knowsley’s year as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture, renowned land-artist James Brunt came to the borough to create some of his iconic outdoor installations in Knowsley’s parks.
In addition, James visited several Knowsley schools to work with pupils on creating land art on school grounds using natural and found materials under the project title of United By Land.
In recognition of their contribution to the unique project, each school will be presented with a framed photograph of the work that they created, signed by the artist himself.
Eight schools took part in the project, they were;
- St Anne’s Catholic Primary in Huyton
- Plantation Primary in Halewood
- Holy Family Catholic Primary in Cronton
- St Luke’s Catholic Primary in Prescot
- St Joseph’s Catholic Primary in Huyton
- Halewood C of E Primary in Halewood
- St John Fisher Catholic Primary in Knowsley Village
- Kirkby C of E Primary in Kirkby.
The first schools to receive the one-of-a-kind print were Plantation Primary School and Halewood Primary school who were presented with the image by Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods and Communities.
Cllr Powell said: “It was always our aim that our year as Borough of Culture would leave a lasting impact on everyone who took part in it. These school children created beautiful art, with a world-renowned artist on their own school grounds. That is an experience that will stay with them and may even inspire some talented future artists. By presenting them with these photographs of their work, the legacy and memory of that experience can live on for many years to come.
