A new downloadable public art map that highlights 12 public artworks has been launched by community arts organisation Heart of Glass. The works have been created with communities as part of their Arts Council England funded Creative People and Places programme and with major funding from National Heritage Lottery Fund.
Since 2021, Heart of Glass has been working with internationally renowned women and LGBTQIA+ artists to create work across neighbourhoods in St Helens and Knowsley. The initiative has helped over hundreds of residents leave their mark on their local areas, foster connections, and develop creative skills.

The public art programme has brought together a diverse group of residents, artists, and collaborators, producing works that reflect the stories, identities, and aspirations of these communities. From vibrant murals to mosaics, each piece is a direct result of local involvement. Artists include Faunagraphic, Cherie Grist, Carrie Reichardt and Nomad Clan.
Collaborators have included local schools such as Holy Spirit Primary in Parr, St Marie’s in Kirkby, housing residents from Torus and ForHousing, women from CGL St Helens, as well as young people from The Lee Cooper Foundation, and businesses and shopkeepers from Huyton.

Patrick Fox, CEO, Heart of Glass says:
“We believe that art has the power to bring us together, imagine new futures and create real change. This new public art map celebrates the stories and experiences of St Helens and Knowsley residents. Each piece of art is a result of local people coming together to make something meaningful, bringing colour and creativity to our streets, and helping strengthen the bonds between people and their neighbourhoods.”
The new map makes it easier for residents and visitors alike to discover these works, which are spread across different neighbourhoods in Knowsley and focused in and around Parr, St Helens.
The downloadable resource provides details about each artwork, its location, the artists behind it, and the communities involved in the creation process.
