BBC Radio Merseyside’s Dave Monks presents a selection of local Liverpool musical talent.

Many will know Dave from his flagship music programme BBC Music Introducing on Radio Merseyside - the place to go to hear what is happening on Merseyside’s vibrant music scene. Every Saturday evening (8-10pm), Dave hosts a two-hour trawl of the very best in cutting edge new releases, plus interviews with the artists and the main movers and shakers working in the industry. Many of the artists Dave has played on his programme have been selected for national playlists on 6 Music, Radio 1, 1xtra, or Radio 2.

LOUIS BERRY

Liverpool born Louis Berry describes his music as ‘honest’, saying ‘If it’s not true, I wouldn’t write it.’ Set to release his debut album in 2023, Louis has recorded with producers such as Jacquire King (Nashville), Steve Fitzmaurice (London), and has toured with artists such as Liam Gallagher, and Richard Ashcroft, among others. He’s been played on national and international radio with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe naming his debut EP ‘Rebel’ hottest record in the world today.

SILENT-K

Originally co-founded by Chris Taylor and Dave McCabe (The Zutons), they decided on the band name as they both originate from Knowsley.

This year, the band are already hot off the back of a sold-out tour supporting Liverpool legends Cast, released new track Doorstep, completed a UK tour and mesmerized the crowd with their homecoming show at this year’s Liverpool International Music Festival.

Frontman Chris Taylor has been at the forefront of the stage and line-ups since SILENT-K’s inception and although McCabe is no longer a permanent member of the band, he features strongly on the band’s debut releases.

CHRIS KEARNEY

Chris Kearney was the founder, guitarist and singer songwriter in the band The Aeroplanes formed in 2004. In 2005 the band’s debut EP crashed into the top 5 of the Indie Charts broke the iTunes record for an unsigned artist in weekly downloads selling 26,000 in one week.

Chris then set up the band Cold Shoulder again as guitarist and singer/songwriter touring with Cast and in 2017 he was the winner of a songwriting competition ‘From Memphis to The Mersey’ where he wrote with and performed with Stax Records legend William Bell, and Memphis singer Susan Marshall.

Chris is currently releasing solo material through Modern Sky UK after signing as their in-house songwriter.

ELEANOR NELLY

Ever since she burst on the scene as a fresh-faced teenager armed with her guitar, Eleanor Nelly gained a reputation for creating songs that exposed the raw and gritty truth about life’s complexities with an open heart and keen eye.

With 10 years of gigging around the UK under her belt, Eleanor Nelly has found herself supporting many of her favourite bands and artists – such as Ruston Kelly and Flyte. At the end of 2021 she released her EP ‘The Best Is Yet To Come’ accompanied by a sell-out show in her hometown of Liverpool with her band.

NATALIE MCCOOL

Natalie McCool is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. She has picked up a fast-growing support base of fans and critics alike with her truly innovative and beautiful take on pop music.

Natalie has enjoyed an impressive last couple of years, with her previously shared singles Closure and Devils being played on BBC Radio 1, 6Music, BBC Introducing and Amazing Radio. Her 2021 singles A Sun Going Down and Heaven continue her upward ascent with A Sun Going Down being named Track of The Week on BBC Introducing Merseyside.
