Later this year, Stockport-based community benefit society Plastic Shed will be creating two unique pieces of artwork for Halewood, using 100% recycled plastic waste and involving the local community in their design and creation.
Ahead of that work, the team need your help to collect 30,000 plastic bottle lids of different colours, shapes and sizes to create the murals. The bottle lids need to be clean and can be dropped off at four locations around Halewood:
- Halewood Park Environment Centre, Okell Drive, L26 7XB
- New Hutte Neighbourhood Centre, Lichfield Road, L26 1TT
- Halewood Library, The Halewood Centre, Roseheath Drive, L26 9UH
There is also an additional collection bin in the One Stop Shop at Huyton Municipal Building, 20 Archway Rd, Huyton, Liverpool L36 9UX
Plastic Shed work with people in the community to turn plastic waste into new useful things, helping to strengthen community cohesion, empower people to take action and support individuals’ health and wellbeing as they get creative with the materials and contribute to a meaningful project, and they have previously created eye-catching murals in Stockport and London.
Plastic Shed’s Owner & CEO Caitlin Marie Atherton said: “We’re incredibly excited to be working with the Halewood community to transform everyday plastic bottle lids into vibrant and meaningful artwork. This is a fantastic opportunity for everyone to get involved, contribute to a more sustainable future, and create something beautiful together that Halewood can be proud of. Start saving those lids!”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said: “”This is a wonderful initiative that not only addresses plastic waste but also brings our community together through creativity. We encourage everyone in Halewood to get involved by collecting their clean plastic bottle lids and dropping them off at the designated locations. We look forward to seeing the fantastic artwork Plastic Shed will create with the help of our residents.”
