Music is a huge part of Knowsley’s story and this will be celebrated once again with the return of the Knowsley Music Festival later this year.
The first Knowsley Music Festival ran across ten days in November 2022 as part of Knowsley’s year as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture. Thousands of people attended events across the borough to see some of Knowsley’s most famous musical exports including China Crisis, Craig Charles and Space.
In March this year, Knowsley Music Festival Extra saw iconic Liverpool band The Christians play at Knowsley Leisure and Culture Park.
Knowsley Music Festival 2023 will once again celebrate some of Knowsley’s (and Liverpool’s) well known talent as well as providing a platform for new and emerging local artists to showcase their musical flair.
A key part of the festival will be the support from local venues, promoters, programmers and performers who have the chance to bid for funding to present a gig. Funding is available for between £250 – £800 and Knowsley Council’s culture and events team want to hear from anyone who has an idea for a music event.
The local programme will showcase Knowsley artists, bands and performers and will take place in new and established music venues across Knowsley.
Knowsley Music Festival 2023 will run from Wednesday 8th November to Saturday 18th November 2023 in venues across the borough and the full line up will be announced soon.
Cllr Shelley Powell, Cabinet Member for Communities and Neighbourhoods said:
“Knowsley Music Festival 2022 was such a huge success, so I am delighted that we are staging it again this year.
I’m also really proud that once again we are financially supporting emerging local artists. We have so much musical talent here in Knowsley and it’s important that we can develop a platform for those artists to showcase their talent, and for venues across the borough to have the opportunity to host live high-quality music.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the full programme of artists involved in this years festival.”
Knowsley Music Festival is being designed by Liverpool-based music consultant Yaw Owusu who has worked with high profile events and organisations like Universal Records, the MOBOs, MTV and the BBC to name just a few.
