At the heart of Art Around Huyton lies the Family Circle—a striking gateway sculpture that celebrates the spirit, history, and identity of Huyton and its people. Born from extensive community consultation, this artwork reflects the voices, memories, and aspirations of local residents, who helped shape both the concept and the wider trail of artworks that unfolds from Huyton Station through the village centre.
The sculpture takes the form of a bold circular portal, crafted in steel and finished in a vivid red—a direct nod to the iconic Family Circle biscuit tins once produced at Huntley & Palmer, where generations of Huyton families worked.
More than a colour, this reference evokes a powerful sense of belonging: community, connection, and shared heritage.
Encircling the structure is an intriguing layer of detail—a series of stainless-steel patterns that reveal themselves as a coded message. Inspired by familiar biscuit designs, yet transformed into something uniquely Huyton, these cyphers invite curiosity and interaction, echoing community suggestions to embed playfulness and discovery within the artworks. Visitors are encouraged to engage, decode, and explore, with further clues accessible through a QR code embedded within the piece.
As both an entrance and an experience, The Family Circle marks the beginning of a wider artistic journey. Its illuminated form glows softly at night, offering a welcoming landmark at all hours—an open invitation to pass through, linger, and connect.
Whether you live, work, or visit, The Family Circle stands as a vibrant symbol of Huyton’s past, present, and future—a place where stories are shared, community is celebrated, and exploration begins.
