The Borough of Knowsley as we recognise it today was formed in 1974 under the Local Government Act, 1972 and in 2024 we are celebrating Knowsley at 50 with a host of events and activities right across the borough.
Knowsley Archives Service is marking the occasion with a programme of exhibitions that plot the story of Knowsley through its unique archival collections.
Throughout the year, a rolling exhibition will reflect the changing face of the Borough.
Presentation of the Freedom of the borough to Huyton MP and former Prime Minister Sir Harold Wilson.
What is a jabot and who would wear it? Which famous politician was given the Freedom of the Borough in 1977? The answers to these questions and more can be found in the Archive.
Come along and browse the Archive exhibition cases at Kirkby Library to find out more about the history of the Borough of Knowsley.
The exhibition can be viewed Monday – Friday, 10:00am-5:00pm and Saturday 10:00am-1:00pm.
